Hi all,

It's my thought that in any public campaign the best move is to anticipate the other side's reaction and preemptively discredit it.

The first fallback position that I noticed from the Lasik doctors/suits was to rattle on about the "standard of care" as if this were a normal medical operation. It is important to emphasize that Lasik is not an emergency procedure - or even a necessary procedure. It is a consumer product that is sold through slick, high powered marketing. When family doctors are moonlighting as commission-based salesmen, alarm bells should go off..

Most reasonable people would understand that it is ethical to give risky treatments to cancer patients. If a disease is consuming the body, a 10% chance of success sure beats a 100% chance of death.

Lasik was sold to people who had a 100% chance of a lifetime of clear vision through safe, time tested methods like glasses or contact lenses.

It is deeply unethical to sell a risky procedure to healthy people. I think that whoever pitches this story to NBC should hit this point hard and repeatedly, as it reverberates throughout the medical field beyond the Lasik industry.

There is enough evidence in the medical literature to demonstrate that refractive surgery harms every eye.

An excellent coverup job involving the laser companies, key individuals
in the medical community and the FDA allowed a harmful and only marginally effective surgery to be performed on an unsuspecting and trusting public.

No patient in their right mind would sign up for an elective surgical procedure with a guarantee of corneal nerve damage, loss of corneal strength and integity, loss of contrast sensitivity and INCREASED corneal distortions that cannot be corrected with glasses!
