Not only do patients who have had corneal refractive surgery have fewer tears because of corneal nerve damage... they also have irregular, often flattened corneas. A healthy, smooth unoperated eye would be more likely to hold an even tear film.

Patients who have had nerve damage from corneal refractive surgery may enter a cycle of dryness which exacerbates inflammation, blocks meibomian ducts (reducing oil required in the tear film) which makes eyes drier and more inflamed. Awful.

Doctors INDUCE this condition in normal healthy eyes so that they can get some money out of patients' wallets.

The relation between sensation, tear production and blink rate may never again be normal in a patients who have had corneal refractive surgery.
