Request a copy of all of your pre- and post-op records. Do not be shy about requesting these records. They are YOUR medical records and you have a legal right to copies of them. Make the request in writing and keep a copy. A sample letter can be found at:
http://www.privacyrights.org/Letters/medical2.htm

You may also be asked to sign an authorization/release form.

Your doctor may charge a reasonable fee for copies.

In most cases the facility should turn over your records within 30 days.

An excellent resource for state laws regarding patients? rights to medical records can be found at:
http://hpi.georgetown.edu/privacy/records.html

Your records should include a pre-op exam record, topographies, signed informed consent, operative report, and records of all post-op visits. If you had a ?custom? or ?wavefront? treatment, your records should also include a copy of your pre-op wavefront scan. Ask for color copies of the topographies and wavefront scans. If there are additional records or tests, obtain copies of all of them.

I am trying to get one of my online friends to obtain his records. His excuse is hes too busy to bother. He did get a look at his topographies while at the lasik center and overall, his aberrations increased! Thats for a 6mm pupil, for a larger pupil measure, the aberration increase would be alot more! Hes not currently happy with his lasik and still wears glasses part time. He already made his mind for an enhancement

Most patients can't possibly understand enough about the LASIK procedure to realize the trouble they can have with an enhancement. Please have your friend read on the site about enhancements. He can look up enhancement using the search feature and learn about increased risk of epithelial ingrowth, WORSE higher order aberrations, an even thinnner, weaker cornea, ripping up those corneal nerves AGAIN, and MORE potential problems/complications.

Enhancements are NOT FDA approved. No systematic clincal trial of the safety and effectiveness of enhancements has ever been performed.

If you haven't had LASIK, don't do it. If you have had one LASIK surgery... stop. That's the safest advice.

I totally agree, Mr. eye! Better to quit while you are still ahead! Enhancements further damage the eye and can induce more astigmatism or overcorrect you. I cant even begin to tell you how many people made their eyes worse with enhancement!

Even patients who consider their surgery a 'success' should obtain a copy of their laser eye surgery records for their home medical files. This information could be useful later should you develop problems down the road. Don't count on your clinic to stay in business - get your own copy of your medical records now and keep them in a file cabinet.
